An arangetram is a student's solo debut performance - the culmination of years of dedicated training in Bharatanatyam. Its a full length recital performed before a live audience accompanied by an orchestra. It's a proud milestone for the student and their family. At Priya Dance Academy, students typically prepare for their arangetram after 7 - 10 years of consistent training.

Ridhi's Journey...

"I started my dance journey at the age of 6, when I was in first grade. While I don't remember my very first class, I'm pretty sure it consisted of my hastas being messy and my aramandi that was far from correct. During my first few years of dance, I earned the nickname “Rajdhani Express” because, class after class, Pavitra auntie had to constantly remind me to slow down. Even now, nine years later, the feedback is still similar: slow down, fix your hands, sit lower, you know the drill. Through it all, though, Pavitra auntie has always had the patience to correct my every mistake and encourage me to give my best in every class and every performance. Over the years, my love and passion for dance has blossomed from a tiny spark into something that has become an important part of who I am. Every Annual Day performance, rehearsal, and opportunity to perform has helped shape me as both a dancer and a person. Now, as I prepare for my Arangetram this fall, I look back with gratitude on how far this journey has taken me and look ahead with excitement for all that is yet to come."

Sahana's Journey...

" I remember coming into my very first bharatanatyam class at 6 years old looking at Pavitra aunty teaching the class, seeing all the older kids walk in, going to their spots and already knowing what they were doing. I remember watching them dance for the very first time, and I instantly fell in love with this incredible art form. Bharatanatyam has taught me so much, from being able to tell a story with emotions or abinaya, to expressing myself with graceful yet strong movements, I have grown so much appreciation for the beauty and the richness of this art form. From not being able to do aramandi properly to now dancing lengthy thillanas and jathiswarams, I have gained patience, discipline, stamina, and dedication for this art form. I have gained many friends, joined a community, and have deepened my connection to my cultural roots. What began as a shy, 6 year old walking into a class has now turned into a lifelong passion that will continue forever. "
